With Spring Break upon us it can be overwhelming with all the obvious choices telling you how to spend your much-deserved time off. But this year, we are shedding some light on some spots unlike the the popular ski slopes and beach towns that have just as much to offer – if not more! Forget busting your bank account with a round trip flight and overpriced Spring Break lodging, and save some dough by taking a quick road trip to these locales all within a two-hour drive of major metros across the US. From breathtaking hiking trails, whale watching, wineries, breweries, historical landmarks, quaint beach towns and more – there really is much more to discover in these easy-to-reach and affordable destinations.

Warwick, New York – Just a an hour and half drive from New Jersey and the NYC area, this quaint New York town sits right above the North New Jersey border. Home to many wineries, cideries, u-pick farms and unique attractions like a drive-in movie theater and a massive sculpture park perfect for a Spring-day stroll, it does not surprise us that Warwick also boasts a charming downtown main street with bars and restaurants, to boot!

Santa Cruz, California – Just within a two-hour drive south of San Francisco, this chill seaside town really seems to have it all. From the bountiful beach selections and breathtaking vistas – not to mention the wide selection of 14 state parks from which to choose. Santa Cruz and its fun boardwalk nightlife make it an easy to choose this destination for some local, NoCal Spring Break plans.

Sulphur, Oklahoma –Sulphur, otherwise known as the City Of Springs and named by Native Americans as The Land Of Rippling Waters, is a short one-and-a-half hour drive from Oklahoma City, located between OKC and Dallas-Fort Worth. As the seat of the Chickasaw Nation, it boasts the Chickasaw Cultural center, as well as a wonderful hotel, charming main street and a chocolate factory.

St. Augustine, Florida –The nation’s oldest city is more than a tourist trap, it’s filled with local businesses and various activities to appease people of all ages. A quick jaunt from either Jacksonville or Orlando, enjoying this city’s rich history all while supporting local businesses is something we can definitely get behind. Plus, who doesn’t love a colonial battle re-enactment overlooking an impossibly beautiful blue ocean?

Utah County, Utah – Up the mountainous canyon of Utah County, about an hour-and-half drive south of Salt Lake City, there is a naturally heated pool called “The Homestead Crater.” Nestled in the Wasatch Mountain range lies a volcano shaped dome of earth where a natural spring heats its water to 95 degrees Fahrenheit year round. This natural pool is called “The Homestead Crater,” or simply “The Crater” to the locals. It is the perfect place to take scuba diving lessons, swim on the weekend, or have a relaxing soak.

French Lick, Indiana – For a two-hour drive south of Indy and about an hour drive northwest of Louisville, French Lick offers some true family fun worth the quick road trip. In fact, there used to be a train that connected French Lick to Chicago for regular weekend visitors from the city. The resort community steeped in history delivers on all kinds of recreational fun (ahem…there’s even opportunities to bathe an elephant!) and boasts an awesome array of local businesses to visit while you’re at it!

Manitou Springs, Colorado – A historic mountain community nestled amongst eight naturally carbonated mineral springs makes Manitou Springs a haven for healing. Native Americans even basked in the healing powers of the sacred springs and gave it its name meaning, Great Spirit. With an adorable downtown, several scenically-beautiful parks, and even an intense uphill climb for those extreme sports types – Manitou Springs is a great spot for those flocking from the Denver and Colorado Springs area.
