Yelp Elites were lucky enough to be the first among sweet toothed Angelenos to check out Christina Tosi’s newest Milk Bar outpost in LA. The Chef’s Table star finally laid down sweet roots in the City of Angels and the Milk Bar LA Flagship doubles as a retail store selling staples like Crack Pie®, Cereal Milk™ Soft Serve, and the celebrated Compost Cookie®, and a hands-on classroom, imaginative kitchen, and R&D lab test kitchen for Milk Bar bakers and baking enthusiasts to get hands on with MB recipes and experiment with their own.
The night started off with a buffet of treats to nibble on, Ramona sparkling wine, and general giddy gab centered around a mutual love for sweets and the famously head-scarved female sugar power house. Speaking of head scarves, a box of colorful scraps of printed material were available for guests to accessorize accordingly. We later learned that Christina’s mom shipped them from the midwest! How cute is that?
The bakery wonderland came alive once Christina joined the festivities. In addition to regaling the excited crowd about her story and drive to bring Milk Bar to the west coast, she demoed the process behind the confectionary dream that is Birthday Cake truffles. If you’ve ever baked a cake that didn’t turn out exactly how you envisioned, don’t toss it! Instead, mix it with flavored milk, dip it in chocolate, and roll it in a dusting of whatever confection speaks to you, and voila… you have yourself a Birthday Cake truffle! After the demo, Yelpers got invited to join the Birthday Cake truffle party by making their very own desserts to take home to stuff themselves silly with (or share, but let’s face it, that prob didn’t happen). Elites are now officially part of the MB tribe, and it’s fair to say that it’s definitely neat to be Elite!
