The Yelp Foundation Gives Local grant contest is officially open for voting starting today, November 29th, through December 9th. Do you care about supporting the nonprofits that do great work to make your community a better place? Of course you do! So go to yfgiveslocal.org to see which nonprofits are nominated and cast your vote.
Unlike many other fundraising campaigns, this contest requires no donation. The Foundation is simply asking the community to help decide which deserving local nonprofits should win funding. It’s your opportunity to make a difference in your local community regardless of how much you can personally contribute. Talk about an easy feel-good moment!
In its first year, the Gives Local campaign gave away $750,000 in grants to nonprofits that supported the Yelp Foundation’s mission:
To support charitable organizations and activities addressing the needs of local communities, including access to information, education, local economic development, and freedom of expression, and to promote a culture of philanthropy among employees of Yelp Inc.
This year, it’s again up to the community and Yelp employees to vote on which of the nonprofit finalists will receive $2,000, $3,000, or $5,000 grants in more than 60 cities across America.
I hope you’ll take a minute out of your day to give these non-profits the support they deserve. These grants can make a world of difference to small, local organizations like My Own Book Fund, Inc. in New York, NY. Thanks to a $2,000 Yelp Foundation grant in 2015, the organization was able to take more than 40 third graders from a Bronx Title 1 school to visit a bookstore and go home with $50 worth of books each. The organization shared that most of the children had never had the opportunity to shop for books before this trip.
